Meet Dr. David Vukelich
Personal History
I was born and raised in the
state of hockey known as Minnesota. Hockey was a major part of my as a youth,
and for most of us northerners it was a way of life. As time went on, my father
accepted a transfer to the state of Virginia where I finished the rest of my
childhood.
My first year of college I attend Emory and Henry College on a full athletic scholarship for soccer. From there, I moved back to Minnesota and finished my A.A. degree. I then relocated to Grand Junction, Colorado, where I studied premed. Eventually, I relocated back to Minnesota for my doctorate at Northwestern Health Sciences University, which I completed in November of 2008.

Better Health Alasksa - Hobbies of Dr. Wells.
Hobbies
I enjoy teaching and
coaching youth hockey. I’ve had the Honor of a coaching a Youth Hockey team
known as the Grizzlies. We were able to achieve the first regional championship
and placement in the State Championship since the start of the hockey program
in Glenwood Springs, CO.
I decided to move to Alaska
because of my true passion is the outdoors. Most free time I have is spent
climbing the peaks of Alaska & venturing new trails. And, when it comes to
winter, back country skiing becomes the new adventure along with the fast-paced
sport of hockey.

Whiplash - Symptoms and Treatments
Whiplash
Good news for whiplash patients
More than 3 million Americans suffer from whiplash every
year – and that’s just from vehicle accidents. Whiplash can also be caused by
other types of collisions, such as playing sports or falling on the ice.
Whiplash is an injury to the neck caused by the sudden movement of the head backward, forward or sideways. Whiplash injuries can result in stretched or torn neck muscles or ligaments, bulging or ruptured discs, misaligned vertebrae, and the loss of the neck’s normal forward curve.

Apart from neck pain, whiplash symptoms may include:
- Headaches
- Upper back pain
- Pain between the shoulder blades
- Shoulder pain
- Pain, numbness or tingling in the arms or hands
- Low back pain
- Loss of mobility / stiffness
- Dizzines
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Blurred vision
Most often with whiplash injuries, pain occurs immediately or is felt within a few days, but sometimes whiplash symptoms may not appear for weeks or even months after an accident.
Often, whiplash injuries can result in chronic neck pain. For example, one study showed that nearly 40 percent of people with whiplash still experienced pain seven years later. Behind chronic back pain, neck pain is the next disability epidemic, with whiplash as the leading cause of neck pain.
The good news is there are several treatment options
available for whiplash.
Whiplash treatments include:
- Chiropractic adjustments
- Physical / occupational therapy
- Rehabilitation to improve muscle strength
- Massage therapy
- Multi-cervical unit (MCU) therapy

Taking the Pressure Off of Learning to Be Flexible
Men's Corner
Learning Why Flexibility in Men is
So Important
When most men think about flexibility, they instantly think about their spouses or some sort of circus act. While this is obviously a negative way to interpret this subject, it is a proven fact. Rarely will a man consider his own flexibility, when in fact it is something everyone should be concerned with. Stretching is a key part of establishing good flexibility.
Stretching is proven to help improve circulation through the entire body. This helps speed up recovery to the body from strain or injury. It also increases blood flow to your muscles. This increases the amount of nourishment that the muscle receives and increases the amount of impurities that are removed from the body.
Stretching and good flexibility can also decrease the amount of lower back and neck pain that most men suffer from. When our muscles tighten they become strained, they put these parts of our body into tension or various periods of pain and discomfort. Stretching will help increase the mobility of these regions, and the increased oxygen within our muscles and blood will help prevent them from becoming over worked and strained.
It can also help with your coordination. This can help improve our athletic prowess as well as our self esteem due to this increased performance. This also helps to eliminate the risk of falls or injury when we do fall. It also increases our cardiovascular health, which directly improves our health and performance. All of these factors can be easily witnessed through dozens of applications throughout of daily routines.

Ways to Keep Women Healthier through Multivitamins
In today’s modern society, we are constantly on the move. We are also looking for things that are bigger, faster, and easier. It is the drive for efficiency that often times causes us to forget about some of the more basic portions of our lives. We put so much strain on our body throughout the course of a single day that without the proper care and nutrition, our body’s can and do suffer. The simple addition of a multivitamin may be exactly what you need to keep your body running in tip-top shape. The purpose of a general multivitamin is to help the body supplement the necessary vitamins, minerals and nutrients that are missing from our daily meals. Obviously this will not help to remove any of the unnecessary or unhealthy items that we have put into our body throughout the day, but it is a good first step. A balanced Multivitamin will ensure that regardless of your diet, your body is getting the recommended daily amounts of a vast majority of your essential vitamins and minerals.
This has proven to be very effective for women who live very active and stressful lives. While it is not a cure-all solution, it is far better than doing absolutely nothing. It will help prevent you from getting routinely sick or hurt. It will also help to satisfy additional cravings for food by your body, in an attempt to get the nutrients it needs.
