Living Drug Free

Living Drug Free
A Healthy Me is Drug Free! Banner

Living drug free is the key to a healthy lifestyle. Allowing drugs to enter our lives can only lead to bad decisions, deteriorating health, and ultimately death. Learning to avoid the the trappings of this dangerous lifestyle is the key to success.

From advertisements and movies to celebrities and their addictions, lifestyles involving drug use can often look cool and acceptable. Kids and teenagers are often the group who is the most easily influenced by the drug culture.

How can we prevent this? The answer is education. We need to educate people about the dangers of drugs and most importantly we need to educate people on how to say NO when pressured to use drugs.

Below are some tips to remember:

  • Be brave and don't be afraid to say "NO" when offered drugs or alcohol.
  • If you have a drug problem talk to a school counselor, or a minister/pastor, many of them have access to groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Alateen, or N.A. As well as other rehab programs. Help is out there.
  • Talk to those you trust about your temptation, they'll understand and help you avoid it.
  • Never take drugs. Medicine is considered a drug but never abuse your medication.
  • If you have reached the point of over-dependency to it, that you can't go to work without using it, try to gradually set yourself off from it.
  • Educate yourself. Knowing what can happen is half the battle. D.A.R.E. and Above the Influence can help you understand the possible drugs out there and what they can do to your body.

Degenerative Disc / Degenerative Disc Disease

Degenerative Disc Disease - What It Is:

Chiropractor in Anchorage
To understand degenerative disc disease, it is first important to understand the make-up of your spine. In between each vertebra in your spine is a disc, which acts as a spacer and shock absorber. When healthy, these discs are flexible, like a wet sponge.

But injuries or just aging can cause the discs to lose their fluid content and wear thin – beginning the degenerative disc disease process. This allows the vertebrae to rub together, becoming rough, worn down – or even fused together. The result is a degenerative disc.

Degenerative discs are at the root of many other spinal problems, such as instability, stenosis and spondylosis.

Where Degenerative Disc Disease Occurs:

Degenerative discs, which are the result of degenerative disc disease, can appear in the:
  • Neck (cervical spine)
  • Low back (lumbar spine)
  • Middle and upper back (thoracic spine)

Having Friends and Keeping Positive Influences Close

Better Health Pain & Wellness Centers
When you think about it, we all want people to share our experiences with. It does not matter if they are good experiences or bad, the more people that we can share these experiences with, the better we feel. This holds true for both men and women. It does not matter how young or old you are, the effects of these relationships are more powerful than you may have considered. It is human nature to be social, and while some of us are not as outgoing as others, we all still long for some form of companionship.
We try to surround ourselves with people we can relate with and who can relate to us. These positive influences keep us from feeling as though it is “me against the world”. These relationships help us all grow and become better people. We learn from our collective mistakes and go out of our way to help each other. It is this profound relationship that makes us so unique when compared to various species of animals throughout the world.
We have all had to turn to a friend at one time or another for a strong shoulder to cry on or vent our frustrations to. This ability to connect with people allows us to keep our sanity. When you are completely isolated you run the risk of losing parts of yourself. You forget the intricacies that make human-beings so different from everything else. It is far more than just having a pair of thumbs and the ability to use tools. It is the ability to work together and help one another to overcome various situations.
