What is it:

The nerve that carries your brain’s messages to your hand travels from your forearm, through a tunnel formed by your wrist bones and into your hand. Sometimes this tunnel becomes compressed, putting pressure on the nerve and creating a condition called carpal tunnel syndrome.

Carpal tunnel syndrome can be caused by a number of factors, including:
  • Repetitive motion
  • Overuse
  • Strained hand, arm and neck positions
  • Subluxations

Where it occurs:

Carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms occur in the wrist and hand, and affects the functioning of the hand and fingers. Many times the symptoms appear to be carpal tunnel syndrome, when it is really a neck problem. Alternatively, it is commonly misdiagnosed as a neck problem, when in fact it is carpal tunnel syndrome.

Where it occurs:

Patients with carpal tunnel syndrome may experience:
  • Numbness in the hand or forearm
  • Tingling in the hand or forearm
  • Pain in the hand, wrist, forearm or neck
  • Weakness in the hand
